Paolo Lopes Dj Set

Like Shi Kuang, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Sony Terry or Blind Willie Johnson, Paulo Lopes stands out for being a blind musician, being the first blind DJ in trance culture.
Paulo was born in Portugal and as a child he moved to Paris with his parents. Due to a genetic alteration, he presented progressive loss of vision, with definitive blindness established at 8 years of age.
Brilliant in high school, he learned to play the piano when he was 15, and as a teenager he became interested in punk rock, gothic rock, new wave and experimental sound. He graduated in economics and history, at the Paris VII Denis Diderot College and organized numerous cultural events during his time in college.
In the early 90s, he met the techno rave movement that was on the rise, immersing himself in it since its inception; becoming fond of house music, techno, hardcore and psychedelic trance. He participated in the organization of several raves in Paris, since the beginning of the movement in France.
It was for Trance that he felt the greatest attraction, which made him engage in the nucleus of the first Goa movement, in Paris (one of the largest in the world), in the early 90s, starting to organize parties of underground Goa, in the city.
In 1995, due to all these influences, he started playing as a psychedelic trance DJ and decided to take this sound to Brazil. With other Europeans, in Bahia, he began to disseminate this type of sound in Canarian lands. From there, it spread throughout the country.

Since 1996, Paulo Lopes has lived between Trancoso (Bahia / BR), Paris (France) and Lisbon (Portugal). From that year he organized parties in Brazil, such as: Full Moon and the electronic New Year’s Eve in Trancoso, with emphasis on the 1999/2000 turn, where the trance scene established itself as one of the main attractions of the Bahian coast.
From 1997, his career leveraged in Brazil. He participated in events such as Megavolts (São Paulo) Orion (São Paulo), Psyeclogic (Rio de Janeiro / RJ), Sinergia (Diamantina / MG), Trancendence (Goiás) and Universo Paralello (Bahia, where he is always invited to play). In 2004 he made an inner vision compilation on the label Quantika, from Belo Horizonte / MG.
In Portugal, Paulo Lopes was also one of the pioneers playing since 1996, by Good Mood. He played in the first edition of the Boom Festival in 1997, and also in 2000 and 2004, in addition to Utopia (2006, 2010), Hypnose (Opening of Expo Universal Lisboa, 98) and Quest 4 Goa. In 2010, he got involved with the Free Flow Crew, playing in several editions. He also participated in ZNA Gathering, Freedom Festival (2015,2017) and Free Kuenci.
He is currently a member of Morphonic Records, from Paris and a resident of Sinergia Crew, Diamantina / MG and Vibe Solid (Belo Horizonte / MG).
Paulo Lopes continues to play with an incredible passion: a blind man who uses music to express the magic of life and the hidden dimensions of sound. Listening to him, one can understand the true definition of psychedelia and an excellent expression of his spirit. Listening to him really is a unique experience.
